Fall 2026

Young Adult Retreat

Overview

Adults Only

Is your TikTok feed full of sourdough recipes, plant care tips, vacation spots, and/or DIY tutorials? Do you and your dog/cat have a matching outfit? Did you go to midnight releases for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight movies? If so, you may be a young adult and this is definitely the retreat for you!

The Young Adult experience is varied and full of transitions. Some of us are on our first career, some of us are on our third, and others are still figuring it out. Some of us are renting, just bought our first house, or are living with our parents until we pay off our student loans. We may be single, dating, newlyweds, or even have a few toddlers in the house.

Wherever you are in your young adulthood, this retreat invites you to rest in creation, refocus your spirit, and reclaim the role of play in your life.

This retreat is in partnership with Grace Presbytery’s Young Adult Ministry Committee, who has generously offered to provide scholarships to those who need financial assistance to attend the retreat.

More information

Gilmont’s Young Adult Retreat invites you to immerse yourself in creation and embrace wonder-filled play! Activities throughout the weekend include canoeing, axe throwing, crate stacking, hiking, group games, and more. Craft supplies and prayer stations will be available. There will be plenty of time to relax and rest among creation.

The retreat begins the evening of Friday, October 16. The retreat concludes on Sunday, October 18 after lunch.

Retreat Speaker: Rev. Brendan McLean

While originally born and raised in Kansas (like Superman and Ted Lasso), Brendan has been a Texan for more than seven years, serving currently as an associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler. He has served in ministry in Texas in a variety of ways—doing various committee work for Grace Presbytery, leading worship for migrant teen boys in Dallas, and serving on leadership for camps and conferences at Gilmont and Mo-Ranch name a few. He is a man of many interests including, but not limited to, glass blowing, abstract painting, printmaking, movies, reading, hiking, good food, exploring new places, and spending time with his loved ones (including his partner, Kala, and their dog child, Arowyn). If you asked Brendan to sum up his ministry in three words, he would choose solidarity, imagination, and curiosity. Those who know Brendan well would describe him as “essentially a golden retriever.”

Music Leader: Ryan seekins

Ryan Seekins is no stranger to Gilmont. She has been attending Camp Gilmont since she was 7 years old. She was a Camp Counselor for multiple years and also was the Summer Camp Co-Director in 2020. Ryan is also on the board at Gilmont and helps throughout the year with retreats through Grace Presbytery. When Ryan is not at Gilmont she is a Choir Teacher in Wylie, Texas and has 3 beautiful cats that are her and boyfriends spoiled children. Ryan cannot wait to lead you in music during the Young Adult Retreat!!
