The more you hear.”

Advent Silent Retreat

Overview

For Adults

Advent is a season that asks us not only to prepare, but to pay attention, to notice the ways hope, wonder, and grace are already taking root around us. At Gilmont, silence becomes a companion for that holy work.

As the days grow shorter and the world around us becomes increasingly busy, Advent invites us into a different rhythm—one of stillness, reflection, and holy attentiveness. The Advent Silent Retreat at Gilmont offers a sacred opportunity to step away from the noise of daily life and enter into the beauty and mystery of the season.

Whether you are new to silent retreats or have long cherished contemplative practice, this Advent gathering offers an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover the sacred stillness where God speaks. Come away for a time of quiet wonder, and begin the Advent season grounded in peace, attentive to grace, and open to the holy mystery unfolding among us.

More information

The retreat begins with a brief time of verbal sharing and setting intention for the retreat. Throughout the retreat, participants experience space for quiet and reflection along with space for creatively encountering God through optional, self guided prayer stations.  Silence is broken for scheduled scripture readings, and participants are given the option of meeting with a spiritual director for 30 minutes daily, if they would like to verbally process anything that is stirring that needs to be spoken to a trusted listener.

Retreat Facilitators

Your Encouragement

You are in charge of your own practice at the retreat.  You are encouraged to take this time to lean into the practice of silence and to avoid the temptation to fill the time with study, catching up on a good book, or whatever else might vie for your attention.

The retreat begins Thursday, December 3 with check in starting at 4 pm.

We will gather for dinner at 6 pm followed by a conversation around the rhythm of the retreat and our time together practicing silence in community. Participants will be invited to consider signing up for sessions with a spiritual director during this time as well. Following that conversation, we will enter into silence together.

The retreat ends Sunday, December 6.

We will gather for the worship following breakfast and then we will break silence during communion.
