Camp Gilmont Health and Safety Plan
The following procedures have been adopted for the summer of 2020 as an addition to the existing Camp Gilmont Health and Wellness Policy. *In this plan the word “participant” refers to family members at family camp, campers at summer camp, staff members and guests for retreats and other events*
Partnering With Families
We ask that all families help us preserve the health of all participants by disclosing if your camp participant meets any of the following conditions:
Please contact us within one week of your session if your camp participant meets any of these conditions. We understand that everyone wants to come to camp, but ask that you consider the safety of the whole group and partner with us to keep camp safe.
Promote a Protected Environment
If any participant begins to show concerning symptoms, as determined by the on-site nurse, the participant will sensitively and kindly be put into isolation. Parents will be contacted immediately and the participant will be taken to a local health office to be evaluated. From there, appropriate action will be taken depending on the results of tests. Participants approved to stay at camp will be kept in isolation until symptom free.
Parents and proper health officials will be notified if there is ever a positive case of COVID-19 related to a participant who attended camp. The fastest and most efficient way to communicate this is through email. We will confirm your email address with you when your participant is dropped off at camp.
Temperature Check
Upon arriving at Camp, every participant will have their temperature checked with a no touch thermometer. Anyone with a fever will be sensitively moved to an isolation area for further evaluation. Out of an abundance of caution, anyone with a fever over 100.0° or persistent respiratory symptoms will not be able to stay at camp.
Clean Up
Cabin clean up has always been an important part of the daily schedule and campers work to make beds, sweep and take out the trash. Every day, our staff will sanitize all major points of contact including, but not limited to, door handles, light switches and bunk bed rails. Bathrooms and communal areas will be sanitized multiple times per day. After groups leave camp, cabins and common areas will be cleaned and sanitized before the next group arrives.
Hygiene Practices
One of the most important precautions in preventing disease of any kind is proper hand hygiene. For this reason, participants will be taught how to wash hands properly and signs will be placed by all sinks with the steps to proper hand washing. All participants will be asked to wash hands before and after every mealtime, after using the restroom and in between all activities. In addition, hand sanitizer will be available at various locations around the camp and be used as needed. Participants will be encouraged to use proper sneezing and coughing etiquette. Staff will wear masks during meal service times and in other particular times of close contact with campers. Participants will be allowed to wear masks if desired, but it will not be enforced.
