Frequently Asked Questions
Can I visit the camp before I come?
We welcome visitors during this time by scheduled appointment only. Call us at 903.797.6400 or you can email us at info@gilmont.org
Is Gilmont going to take good care of my child?
Yes! We understand the great responsibility parents entrust to us and we work very hard to make camp a safe place. Our counselors are screened through lengthy interviews, background checks, and references. Gilmont has a camper:counselor ratios of 1:7 so that our staff can easily supervise and get to know all of our campers. We also spend 10 days before summer thoroughly training our staff in efforts to ensure that each camper has the best and safest week of camp possible.
What ages does Gilmont serve?
During the summer months Gilmont serves campers who have completed K-11th grades. During the fall, winter, and spring, we host and program retreats and events for people of all ages!
Where will I be staying and what kind of bathrooms do you have?
Campers will be in a cabin with campers of similar age. Gilmont cabins have air conditioning, bunk beds and showers. If you sign up for Adventure Camp, you will be staying in our tree houses that have bunk beds. Toilets and showers are in the nearby bathhouse.
Do younger kids room with the older kids?
We have designated cabins for each camp; however, due to the breakdown of campers registered in some weeks, there may be two age groups in one cabin.
Can my child stay in the same cabin as their friends?
You bet! During the registration provess, you will have the opportunity to indicate who you would like to be in the same group with during the camp session. We have campers that come year after year and communicate with other campers about the week and the camp they plan to come to!
Is Gilmont a non-profit camp?
Yes. Gilmont is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization.
Are you making changes due to Covid-19?
Yes! Visit our Health and Safety page for information regarding our Covid-19 policies and procedures for Summer 2023.
What if we must cancel?
See our policy: Dates & Prices
I’m not Presbyterian. Can I attend Gilmont?
Certainly! Though Gilmont's history is Presbyterian, almost half of our campers are not Presbyterian, some do not have a faith tradition; and, some of our campers may be from other faith traditions. We only ask that all campers participate in the Bible study, worship and small group discussions that are part of Sessions 1-4 of the Gilmont Summer Camps. The Great Gluten Escape (GGE) at Gilmont Camp is the exception. GGE is unique, in that it was founded as a project for a Girl Scout Gold Award, in partnership with a community nonprofit organization out of Dallas for children who are gluten intolerant. Community building and peer support are the core of the GGE camp and a unique theme is chosen for this camp each year. Gilmont sees all of the camps as important parts of our ministry and fulfilling our mission for people to grow in mind, body and spirit by experiencing God's love.
Can I email my camper?
Absolutely! You can send daily emails to gilmontcampmail@gmail.com The summer camp email is checked at 10:00 a.m. each day.
